SUEZ expands presence in Massachusetts with new wastewater service contract with City of Lynn

Operations & maintenance contract worth $164 million over 20 years

SUEZ has been selected by the Lynn, Massachusetts Water and Sewer Commission to operate, manage and maintain Lynn’s wastewater treatment plant and 13 pump stations. The contract begins July 1, 2021 and is scheduled to run through 2041.

As part of the agreement, SUEZ will partner with AECOM Technical Services and C.H. Nickerson to perform over $65 million in capital improvements to the 40-year-old Lynn Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant. SUEZ, AECOM and Nickerson have successfully teamed up many times in recent years, including East Providence, Newport and Woonsocket in Rhode Island; and Devens, Holyoke and Springfield, MA.

“The Commission is looking forward to working with SUEZ, to provide the residents of Lynn with wastewater services for the next 20 years,” said Dan O’Neill, Executive Director, Lynn Water and Sewer Commission.

The Lynn wastewater facility treats an average of 26 million gallons a day and can accommodate up to 100 million gallons during wet weather. It serves 140,000 people, including the 93,000 residents of Lynn, and residents of neighboring communities Nahant, Saugus and Swampscott.

The capital investments and process improvements will improve the plant’s overall environmental performance, with a goal of improving the quality of effluent, and reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. It will also support the City of Lynn’s waterfront redevelopment efforts by operating with minimal odor and noise; the system improvements we make will mitigate the current sources.

“We have a very robust presence in Massachusetts, and we look forward to serving residents of the City of Lynn,” said Nadine Leslie, Chief Executive Officer of SUEZ North America. “SUEZ can offer the City of Lynn a local presence that understands their needs, as well as the experience and expertise that comes from our global operations.”

SUEZ provides water and wastewater services to approximately 450,000 residents in 15 communities throughout Massachusetts including Agawam, Devens, Hingham, Holyoke, Hull, Hyannis, North Cohasset, Rockland and Springfield.
