Director, Architecture & Strategy

The position will be responsible for coordinating and driving architecture activity and deliverables in order to meet the demands and expectations of a specific business unit or project. In, addition, this position provides technical and managerial leadership across the organization, from strategic decision making down to the project planning level.

Assignment

Main activities

  • Manage Capability - Monitor, manage, measure and lead the activities of an architecture team responsible for delivering enterprise architecture capability.
  • Coach and Mentor - Act as coach and mentor to advise and assist consultants, analysts, technical specialists, team members and architects in any Architecture disciplines
  • Manage Enterprise Architecture (EA) Life Cycle - Ownership of the enterprise architecture development lifecycle.
  • Initiative Evaluation – Drive or contribute to the process of selecting the right solution to deliver the business need. This may include RFIs, RFPs and business cases.
  • Project Delivery - Lead the design and modelling of tactical architectures for delivery, development, and support of projects
  • EA Repository - Manage the operational work associate with managing an EA repository, Tool and its contents.
  • Grow Capability – Build, measure and grow the architecture capability within BTS and across the business. Contribute to the overall development and improvement of BTS processes, principles and operational standards.
  • Prioritize EA workload - Ensuring that the application/systems, data and technology aspects of the enterprise architecture are driven by the business imperatives of the organization and that the requirements driving the overall architecture are managed consistently and effectively.
  • Guiding Stakeholders - Understanding and presenting the immediate/tactical and strategic benefits of adopting a consistent architectural approach within the context of SITA to help the business justify their investments.
  • Assessing the requirements and presenting architectural recommendations that are in line with the strategic vision for the enterprise and wider best practice.
  • Providing EA leadership to the wider architecture and technical community and maintain constructive relationships with suppliers to allow effective and productive evaluation of vendor offerings against business requirements, constraints and priorities.
  • Manage the Governance - Advice on and participate in the governance arrangements set up to ensure that the enterprise architecture delivers the desired benefits to the organization.
  • Architecture Governance - Develop and maintain the governance frameworks, principles, standards and processes required to support the communication of architectures with other parts of the business.

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field preferred

 

10+ years’ IT experience

Key skills required

  • Full life cycle experience, responsible for the development of a complete set of architectural views for an enterprise in accordance with one of the more common architecture frameworks (e.g. Zachman, TOGAF, PEAF).
  • Strong business analysis skills and experience, including development of business vision and strategies, capability models, functional decomposition, requirements elicitation, process modeling.
  • Experience of at least one of the commonly used methods, notations and tools (e.g. BPMN, UML, iServer, Aris).
  • Experience of ‘system of systems’ architecture development, partitioning of functionality among applications and components and application interfaces/interoperability concerns.
  • Experience of software development methodologies and structured approaches to system development.
  • Extensive experience in developing strategic enterprise, application, data and technical architecture plans.
